Working towards a More Sustainable World - In more ways than you think.

Medsalv was started with two key goals in mind - 1, reduce the level of waste generated in the Health Sector, and 2, Reduce the amount of Money spent on Medical devices.

Ultimately these two goals are core to a more financially and environmentally sustainable health system, but they are only a small part of the sustainability conversation.

Looking at our work in terms of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, we can highlight some of the other areas we are contributing to a better Australasia. There are 17 Goals agreed upon by the United Nations and 8 of these are directly reflected in our day to day work.

Helping the health system help more people

As a direct result of the financial savings we are providing for Hospitals across the country every day, Australasia’s health budget can serve more people.

We do everything as clean as possible

Our reprocessing processes and transport and logistics use the cleanest energy available. This means only renewable energy for reprocessing, and avoiding shipping devices by air travel.

We’re helping New Zealanders and Australians

97% of New Zealand’s medical devices are imported and 80% of Australia's. As a result, the majority of manufacturing happens overseas. Conversely, all of our work is completed in New Zealand, and we employ New Zealanders at fair wages to do it.

Changing the game for the better

While international reprocessing firms based in the USA have large plants that process thousands of devices per day, we have optimised our processes to deliver value on a smaller scale, to Australasia.

Reducing inequity in the workforce

From the outset, we’ve designed our remanufacturing processes to enable people with barriers to employment to participate in Australasia’s workforce and contribute to a more sustainable world.

Global impact - from right here in Australasia

Reprocessing reduces the volume of devices required to be manufactured overseas in high carbon economies. Reducing the environmental impacts shouldered by cities and communities where these devices are produced.

goal 12.png

Dramatically reducing resource waste

Simply put, if we reprocess a device 6 times, we reduce the number of devices potentially going to landfill by 84%. On top of this, if the device is rejected for some reason, we take steps to enable recycling of the product.

Remanufacturing cuts down on emissions

Manufacturing is incredibly carbon emission intensive, compounded when devices are shipped around the world via air freight. By cleaning and testing devices locally in our Carbon Zero and Climate Positive Facility, as opposed creating and shipping new ones, we directly reduce the contribution healthcare makes to climate change.
